What actually happens in the first session?
It's a conversation, not an assessment you can fail. You'll talk about what's brought you to therapy, roughly what you're hoping for, and a bit about how you like to work. It's also a chance for you to ask questions and get a feel for whether it seems like a fit, before committing to anything ongoing. Sessions are 50 minutes.
Do I need to know exactly what's "wrong" before I start?
No. Plenty of people start with "I just feel off and I don't know why" or "everyone keeps telling me I should talk to someone." That's a completely workable starting point. Figuring out what's actually going on is often part of the early work, not a prerequisite for it.
Is it confidential?
Yes. What's discussed in session stays private, protected by professional ethical standards and data protection law. The only exceptions are the standard safeguarding limits any registered therapist works within, for example, if there's a risk to your safety or someone else's, and that would always be discussed with you directly wherever possible, not done behind your back.
Online or in-person, does it matter which I choose?
Both are available: in-person in Scunthorpe, or online by phone or video anywhere in the UK. Neither is "better" in general, it's about what actually works for your life and what helps you feel able to talk openly. Some people prefer the containment of a dedicated room, others feel more able to open up from somewhere familiar. Either is a good choice.
How much does it cost, and how do I know it's worth it before committing?
A free initial consultation is available specifically so you can ask about cost, discuss what you're looking for, and decide if it feels right, with no obligation to continue afterward. That conversation happens before any payment or commitment, so you're not deciding blind.
How many sessions will I need?
There's no set number. Some people come for a handful of sessions to work through something specific, others find longer-term, ongoing support more useful. It's reviewed as you go, at your pace, not sold as a fixed package upfront.
What if I try it and it doesn't feel right?
That's a completely valid outcome, and worth saying out loud rather than just not booking again. Fit matters in therapy. If something isn't working, it's fine to say so, ask for adjustments, or decide it's not for you right now. There's no pressure to continue something that isn't helping.
Is this suitable for teenagers, or just adults?
Both. Support is offered for teenagers and adults, with the approach adapted to age and situation rather than a one-size-fits-all format.
If you've read this far, the next step is a low-key one: a free, no-obligation consultation to ask anything that's still unclear.
